working with wordpress locally

Today I’m going to talk about how to work locally on your wordpress setup. This is helpful to people who want to edit their wordpress themes without having to tinker with it on their server. Once your’re happy with it locally, you can push the changes to the server. This is particularly useful to those who don’t want the lag of having to use a server all the time, while keeping a copy of the database locally in the event that something were to happen remotely.

In this video tutorial we will be using, xampplite, a couple of scripts, winscp and crontab. This video tutorial assumes you have basic knowledge of linux commands and are working locally in windows.

You can grab the sql_exporter.bat file here. You can also get the importer script that runs on the linux side here. If you have any comments or questions please feel free to leave them one in the comments area and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

I like the fact that you show how to troubleshoot, using the error logs, if something goes wrong. I really got a lot out of this, it’s short enough that watching once gives a good idea of the process, and watching it a second time lets me focus on the details.
